✨ how to make a routine ✨
a note on routines… building a routine is ultimately about building good habits that encourage you to be the best version of yourself & set your days and weeks up for success. depending on where you’re at in your life you may not be able to sustain the same routine every single day so it’s important to not be hard on yourself. if you check out the screenshot of my week from my random afterglow tip you’ll see that not every morning looks exactly the same for me and that’s ok!
for example, wednesday evening i sleep at my boyfriend’s place and that means i can’t carry out my morning routine exactly as i would if i had been at my place. it’s just about being dynamic and finding a rhythm that works for you.
✔️ in this section i’ll:
breakdown my morning routine
breakdown my evening routine
provide my step by step example of how to build a routine + provide a worksheet so you can try it out yourself
here’s an example of my standard morning routine:
5:30-6:00am → morning routine is just a block i give myself to get up, brush my teeth, wash my face, make my bed & get dressed
6:00-6:30am → meditate & journal is a block of time i give myself to stretch, meditate (i currently meditate for 5 minutes) and journal
6:30-7:00am → i give myself this time to read!
7:00-8:10am → travel to workout studio & workout
usually after i workout i try to shower, make my breakfast & get to work 9am onwards :)
here’s an example of my standard evening routine:
8:30-8:45pm → i do my last scroll on social media, text my boyfriend goodnight and turn my phone on do not disturb for the rest of the evening & start to unwind
8:45-9:00pm → i turn on a 30 minute yoga flow from apple fitness+ (if you don’t have fitness+ i made a youtube playlist of free 30 minute yoga flows here)
9:00-9:30pm → i do my evening routine to get ready for bed including skincare, brushing my teeth, laying out my clothes & workout bag for the next day and get into bed for 9:30pm!
here are my tips for building your own routine:
🚨 i’ve made an editable & printable routine worksheet to help you build yours that you can download to use. i also made a version with an example of how i would plan out mine here (you may have to download my copy to see my answers).
1. make a list of everything you want to do in a day that doesn't fall into your "non-negotiables" (ie. work, school, workouts, pre-arranged plans)
2. arrange your tasks/habits/items that aren't non-negotiables into a morning or evening segment
3. open your calendar and start plugging in the parts of your day you have to commit to (ie. work, school, travel time)
4. create two bigger blocks for morning and evening routine and start plugging your smaller tasks into those blocks the biggest thing i would say with this is don't be hard on yourself if you don’t always stick to your routines right away, it takes time to build these up but its very rewarding when you can.
