thought goals 💭
what to do with the things you think about in the back of your mind
in any particular moment i, like most of you, gravitate toward thinking about a variety of random things. here and there something i can only think of as a ‘thought goal’ comes into view. these are things that i want to do for myself but that i don’t want to turn into something that needs a process.
they’re casual thoughts that would lead to happiness or enjoyment in my life but they aren’t big enough to directly create a step-by-step process. you could say that these are things we think about that bring us down to earth and remind us we’re just regular people trying to live life.
i want to share some of my ‘thought goals’ with you today and also talk about how i’m keeping track of them and hopefully how i’m going to implement them in my life.
documenting & implementing thought goals
the most important part of this whole thing is finding a way to make your thought goals live. that means understanding when something is a thought that can be turned into a casual goal or a reminder versus a bigger-picture idea.
my best definition for a thought goal is those random moments in life when you are doing something and then are overtaken by the desire to start doing x or incorporate y into your life. sometimes i’ll be scrolling through tiktok and will be overtaken with this positive ambition to make something happen for myself.
i try to document these feelings in a list i call “thought goals 💭”. it can be digital or physical, however, i recommend a digital list so that it can be on you at all times. the whole point of these goals is that they’re mini reminders of things you want to do that you normally wouldn’t just think of, they just kind of come to you in the moment.
some of mine include:
wear less makeup but be super intentional with my products when i do
work on my posture
be mindful about clothing purchases & build a staple wardrobe before all else
start watching tennis again
taking these ideas out of your brain and putting them somewhere is the start of this process. by writing it down, you’ll naturally start thinking about it more and they become natural thoughts about actions you know will make you feel better.
the whole point of a thought goal is that you shouldn’t put pressure on yourself to get it done by a certain time or in a certain way. it’s just a reminder to honor the random thoughts that circulate your head and acknowledge that if you think about something that makes you feel good or excited, make sure to write it down. you deserve it.
